Last summer, my husband bought us a laser. It’s an X-Tool D1 5W, a starter model. He did purchase multiple accessories including a cover, an exhaust and a honeycomb.
When he purchased it was ahead of the convention in Franklin and so I was too busy to do anything with it. Then later too exhausted to think about it. He used it to make some Christmas gifts.
I finally got busy designing a project for a workshop for the convention in Cincinnati in August. My workshop The Buttercup Cottage has open spots Here (at the time of this writing). You must be registered for the convention or purchase a day pass.

I’m excited to teach my first class at the convention. (I have taught classes before in person many years ago.) This time Gene will be there helping me.
I also designed a new class for Create – a Laundry room in a detergent scoop. This one is available as a second chance. This means you purchase the kit and then get access to the link for the video recording of the online class.

I really enjoyed designing this kit, more than the Buttercup. I love minis made in containers. Plus I loved making minis that are “upcycled”. I am delighted when they are done because they are so darn cute.
Next up is a project soon to be announced on Create. I am excited to teach another class there.
Plus I have just finished the proto types for roundtables for the convention in Cincinnati. Can’t show those. I will only tell you they fit the theme of the convention.
Using a laser can be intimidating. I have found a lot has to do with the software. I personally have not found the x-tool software as friendly as the Silhouette software. The latter I had started learning a short time ago. I did need to purchase the designer level so I can export svg files. I can’t use their designs unless purchased as commercial. That’s fine, it’s better if I do it myself anyway. I was only using them as a starting point.
I have a new project coming out that you can purchase on Create May the 5th. I will post about it separately.
Happy miniaturing!
