Camp Make-A-Mini 2024

The lovely project for this Camp was an Arts and Craft style building by Debbie Young. At first I didn’t want to buy it. I just have so many unfinished projects. But as people began to talk about it, I decided to buy it. It wasn’t that I didn’t want it, so much I didn’t want another half finished project.

Well, that’s exactly what I have at this moment. I have at least finished the building and added lights. So let’s discuss that.

Adding lights

To add lights, I drilled a hole in two of the rafters. There is always a question of how many lights. I considered the porch but decided not to as I would personally only have a porch light on during the evening. But we need lights inside a building.

Using a drill to add holes for wire

I double checked whether it stayed straight. And if the wire would go through.

This was just to test the hole. Not the right direction.

Next I decided I wanted to add some thing between the wood and light. I checked my stash and found these bead caps. I also looked at my bugle beads for extending it. But I decided against those.

Notice that I have bent the wire for the led. I want it to shine down.

I glued the bead cap in place with superglue gel. Then the led was glued to the bead cap.

Next I dealt with the wires. I used my dremel Stylo tool to cut a give where the rafters attach to the roof.

The wires will go out and down behind the shingles siding.

Here’s where I am on the lighting.

Lights out VS on. The yellow is from the Warm White LED.

Rock base

I deviated from the instructions and glued the rocks individually. It was fairly easy to do by first spreading the rock out to find one’s I liked. Then I spread glue over and area and then added each rock. I subsequently ran out of rock because I was not using the orange ones. I dislike orange as a color. However Debbie offered to give some people grey rocks instead, so I asked if I could get more of the ones she had included. She agreed and brought it to the Franklin convention. I was not expecting the pound of rocks she gave me.

To add filler between my rocks I used wood filler. I spread it thick enough to get in between the rocks. Once it is filled in and even dried, I go back with a wet rag to wipe away from the face of the rocks. This product can be rewet to move around.

The lower part is near ready. The middle shows adding the filler. The top is the rocks just glued in place.

If there is any difference between rock depth to the wall, then just wipe deeper to show more surface.

This is the finished work. After getting the extra rocks, yes, I started over going with slightly larger rocks because the filler hides a portion.

The front – I still need to paint the roof edges. Probably will be the same Black Cherry.

The roof is not glued down to make it easier to get furniture in place. I will add a base as well as the furniture in some future time.

That’s all for now.

Comments are welcome.

Happy miniaturing!
